About

Welcome to the Wowbook blog, a homepage for the conceptual art project known as Wowbook!

- What is your idea?

My idea is to explore the nature of online, virtual worlds, and the games we use to become part of them. I’m also looking into to exploring the role-playing aspect many of these games seem to harbor. A small group of player characters will start their journey into the real world using social-networking website Facebook, staying mostly “In-Character” and chronicling their in-game adventures to the world of Facebook. We’ll essentially be doing an improvised narrative involving our World of Warcraft characters. I’m attempting to push a message out about the nature of online games sometimes being a lot closer to the real world than we might think, and also about how to some people, their characters are real people instead of just characters.

- What tools do you plan to use?

I’m using a wordpress blog to give the project a cental hub (out of character), and every in-game character will have a facebook personal account page.

For example, is mine.

- If applicable, how do you plan to have people involved?

I’ve got a handful or close friends, but I’ve also made threads on FightingAmphibians (with little positive results) and also on the World of Warcraft Realm Forums.

- How do you plan to make it happen?

It’s already happening! I’m telling everyone I know to get involved, and our little Facebook community is already going well!

- How will the project be executed from beginning to end? (Be very detailed!)

It’s pretty simple. Do something interesting in-game (level up, snag a killer item) make a facebook post about it. Stay In Character and communicate with other players on a regular basis. Improvise out a little narrative. Pretty simple.
I’ll also be keeping links to each character’s profile (and any real world information) on the Wordpress blog for posterity.

- If applicable, a record of interactivity is required for interactive projects, how will you do this?

Facebook keeps a record of everything we do, photos, posts, everything is being posted in real time as we do things in-game.
